Harsh But Necessary Fitness Advice

December 31, 1969

Every once in a while, we all need a wake up call in all aspects of our lives. Well guess what … your fitness alarm is ringing! Here are some simple but overlooked tips, options, and observations you can use to “check yourself,” because, when it comes to your health, you don’t want to “wreck yourself.”

Everyone: Avoid distractions. If you can check your Facebook during your workout, then it’s not a workout. It’s a break. Advice: Do not work out with your phone, or turn it to “airplane mode” to avoid online distractions.

Women: You will not get “bulky” from lifting weights, as it is more of a function of diet. However, weightlifting does increase resting muscle tension, aka “being toned.” Advice: Remember that weightlifting makes you tone, and implement it into your regimen.

Men: Train your legs. Testosterone release is proportional to the stress put on the body. Because some of the biggest and strongest muscles are in the lower body, the stress from training is larger than your bench and curl routine. Advice: Train Legs. Squat, lunge, or step-up.
